The Web updates page has been upgraded to use new web technologies where available. If your browser supports it, you use Javascript enabled page when you visit http://www.macrumorslive.com/. This page will not visibly reload like the web updates have in the past but will check for updates in the background, also giving you a countdown to the next refresh.

IRC

The MacRumors IRC options let you view a live description of the keynote. There are multiple ways of viewing the IRC transcript :

Please only choose one

There are two channels available for the web based client and clients other than MRChat - #macrumors and #macrumorschat. During the keynote #macrumors will be moderated which means you will only be able to read the transcript and will not be able to speak. #macrumorschat will remain open throughout the keynote for discussion.

If you are using the web based client you can join #macrumorschat by clicking the Join button at the top of the client and entering #macrumorschat into the top field. You will only be able to see one channel at a time but can switch between them using the buttons at the bottom of the client. You may also wish to set a nickname for yourself - you can do this by entering your choice of name in the field at the top left of the client and pressing return.

#macrumorschat Rules

Due to the level of activity during the keynote it is not possible for moderators to keep up with the #macrumorschat channels. As such, moderation will largely be done by automated systems, which will follow strict rules and aren't able to give leeway in certain circumstances. It is therefore important that you follow the rules carefully.

FAQ

The WWDC keynote starts at 10am PST, Monday 9th June
For the equivalent time in your time zone, see this page.

I am using an IRC client or the web based client and cannot see any other users?
The channels are set to 'auditorium' mode which means you cannot see other users, however this means that you are not flooded by messages from users joining, leaving or changing nicknames. You are not alone in the channel - there will be hundreds of people there.

Nothing is happening in #macrumors?
Before the keynote starts a countdown will be posted but there may be gaps of several minutes where nothing is said. During the keynote there often are videos or other demonstrations that cannot be transcribed, which causes a gap in transcript. If nothing happens for quite some time you can try reloading the page or reconnecting.

I am using the MacRumors IRC client and want to be able to speak during the keynote
Unfortunately the MacRumors client (MRChat) does not support more than one channel and so can only view the moderated description of the keynote. You will need to download a 'real' IRC client or use the web based client

The web based client says "Couldn't establish connection..."
This may be a temporary error - try again in a few minutes - however it may also be due to a firewall which will stop you connecting to IRC servers. If you are running a firewall on your own computer you may need to alter its settings but if you are connecting from work, or somewhere that has a network-wide firewall, you may not be able to get around it - use the web updates instead.
